A place where business is done by a handshake, where folks still wave to one another and say "how are you?" and where newcomers are welcomed with open arms.
We are a place where the hunting, fishing, and outdoors that make Louisiana a Sportsman's Paradise are close at hand in the richness of Morehouse Parish.
We are a place where history and culture meet progress and the living is easy, where the town square is still the hub of life and where folks take pride in making our community a better place.
We are Bastrop, Morehouse Parish. We are Hometown Louisiana!
JUDGE PHILLIP LESTER
First elected in 2009, Judge Phillip Lester has established a firm reputation for making City Court of Bastrop not only more efficient but for making it more responsive to serving the community of Bastrop.
Judge Lester was raised in Bastrop. From humble beginnings, he worked diligently to first earn his law degree from Louisiana State University Law School in 1991, and then to establish a respected, flourishing law practice before his election as Judge of City Court of Bastrop.
As an adult, Judge Lester has been vitally involved in the community being active in a number of community organizations. Judge Lester is also raising his son, Caden with his wife, April. Judge Lester is well-known as a committed volunteer with church and youth sports organizations. In fact, this commitment to Bastrop and Morehouse Parish was one of the driving reasons he sought to become Judge. As Judge, he has improved and expanded services to City Court, through his use of innovative alternative sentencing and treatment for non-violent youth offenders. Judge Lester has also created probation, diversion, and sends high school students to teen court.
As City Court Judge, Judge Lester has established accounting and other workplace efficiencies to assure the court remains within budget while at the same time increasing the efficiency of the court and the clerk's office.
Visitors to the City Court of Bastrop benefit from the courtesy and respect they receive from all employees of the court. Another benefit has been the manner in which Judge Lester supports and tries to work with everyone who comes through the court, especially first time offenders and high school students.
The court efficiency has been greatly increased through improved procedures such as starting court at 8:30 and continuing until all cases are complete. Certain civil matters are heard after criminal court on Tuesday and special settings for trials on Wednesday. Judge Lester has also made several improvements to City Court including the following:
